Description:
Provide counseling services to individual student-athletes, including evaluation, treatment planning, progress monitoring, re-evaluation and possible referral. Work with individual athletes, coaches and teams to evaluate performance enhancement needs and execute programs to meet the individual and group needs. Understand and comply with state statutes governing the ethical provisions of psychological care, as well as those rules governing the NCAA and Pac-10. Salary is commensurate with experience. Postdoctoral Fellowship Position Announcement Joint Appointment Student Counseling Services and Athletic Department

The University of Southern California Student Counseling Services is pleased to announce a Postdoctoral Psychology Internship open for August 2009. The position is specifically to provide services to the university’s student athletes.

The duties include the organization, management, and administration of mental health programming for student athletes. The postdoc will monitor and supervise program participants, conduct outreach and workshops, and work cooperatively with athletic department staff. Duties include individual psychotherapy, crisis intervention and groups for USC student-athletes. The postdoc will work under the supervision of a California licensed psychologist and the liaison for the athletic department at an NCAA Division I University with 20 teams and approximately 600 student athletes.

Applicants must have a Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program and have preferably completed an accredited APA-predoctoral internship. They must also demonstrate an interest in sport and/or academic preparation in sport psychology. Experience in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds is essential. Experience as a college athlete would be helpful, but not necessary. Organizational skills, follow through, and ability to work independently in a responsible manner are all essential to this position. Completion of dissertation strongly recommended prior to commencement of position. Understanding of statistics and familiarity with SPSS required.

The position is 12 months, full-time. Salary is approximately $23,000 and includes health benefits, sick time, paid vacation, professional days and 500 dollar stipend for professional development.

Post-doctoral / Post-internship Fellowship in Psychology Sport Psychology Emphasis

Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center at Virginia Tech is pleased to announce a 12-month post-internship training position in professional psychology with an emphasis in Sport Psychology. This position offers an opportunity to gain supervised experience working with a college student population in a university counseling center. The fellow would be expected to participate in the full range of services offered by the Counseling Center including provision of individual therapy, group therapy, triage and intake, crisis intervention, consultation and outreach. With the emphasis in Sport Psychology, the fellow will gain supervised experience working with Division 1 and nationally competitive club sport student-athletes; this will include individual clinical work with athletes as well as individual and team performance enhancement. In addition, the fellow will have the opportunity to supervise practicum students in group supervision, and to engage in research / program evaluation.

The fellowship begins on August 25, 2008.The stipend for this full-time position is $31,000. Benefits include annual, sick, and professional leave, eligibility to receive primary care services through the student health center, and staff library privileges. Assistance / stipend will also be provided for the purchase of individual health insurance. Fellows receive two hours of individual supervision weekly and preparation time for licensure.

Applicants for this position must have completed an APA-accredited internship and have 1) earned a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited training program or 2) have completed all academic and internship requirements except for dissertation (ABD) by the start date listed for the position.
